Why I Chose the HomeGrown Herbalist School

I officially graduated from the HomeGrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine! After years of studying, planting, growing, mixing, and learning, I’m now a Clinical Herbalist.

If you’ve ever thought about learning herbal medicine — really learning it — I can tell you this: it’s one of the most empowering, rewarding things you can do for yourself, your family, and even your pets.

Learning What to Do When There’s No Doctor Around

One of the biggest takeaways from the program is confidence.
I no longer panic when something goes wrong — whether it’s a snake bite, a deep cut, or a bad burn.

This program teaches you real-world herbalism.
We didn’t just talk about herbs — we learned how to use them in emergencies, how to understand what’s happening in the body, and how to help when modern medical care isn’t immediately available.

Through the course, I learned:

How the body really works (anatomy and physiology)

How to use plants safely and effectively for different body systems

How to make herbal remedies that actually work — tinctures, teas, salves, and more

How to stay calm and think clearly in situations that might otherwise cause panic

And here’s the part I love — this training also includes herbal care for animals. As a lifelong animal lover, that meant a lot to me.

The Doc Behind It All

All of this comes from Doc Jones, the founder and teacher of the HomeGrown Herbalist School.
He’s a naturopathic doctor and a veterinarian, which makes his perspective incredibly unique.

But what makes him stand out most is his humor. He’s funny in that rare way that makes lessons stick. You’ll be laughing one moment and realizing you just memorized an entire formula the next.

His teaching style feels like learning from a good friend who just happens to know everything about herbs, medicine, and how to patch up a goat.

Why I Recommend This Program

I’ve looked at a lot of herbal courses over the years, and this one is different. It’s not just about reading and memorizing — it’s about truly understanding plants and people.

Here’s why I love it:

It’s online and self-paced, so you can learn from anywhere.

You get solid science and traditional wisdom side by side.

It covers human and animal care, from daily wellness to emergencies.

You become part of a supportive community of herbalists who share your passion for plants and helping others.

If you’re drawn to herbal medicine — whether for personal use, homesteading, or starting your own practice — this is the place to start.

My Takeaway

Becoming a Clinical Herbalist has changed how I look at the world.
It’s comforting to know that even if there’s no doctor around, I have the skills and knowledge to help — calmly, safely, and naturally.

And honestly? It’s just plain fun.
You’ll laugh, you’ll learn, and by the end, you’ll be amazed at how much you know.

If you’ve ever had the thought, “I wish I knew more about how to really use herbs,” I can’t recommend the HomeGrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine enough.

You’ll learn from the best — and you’ll walk away with a whole new way of seeing the world.
